Brides and Shoe Trends

Inevitably, a wedding day is almost wholly about the wedding dress. Months and months of prep work can go into finding and buying the Perfect wedding dress. But all that planning and all that imagination can go to a waste if that Perfect wedding dress is not paired with the Perfect pair of shoes. Many a country has the bride’s shoe as an intrinsic part of the celebrations and rituals. For instance, in China, the bride wears red shoes. One of these shoes is thrown down from the roof at the end of the function to ensure that the newly married couple has happiness and peace in their life together. So what do bridal shoe trends dictate?

Most of the time, brides tend to choose something that is soft, shimmery and has a bit of dash by way of sparkling jewels or rhinestones to go with their dress. But today’s trends point to a bit of color coming into the shoe domain as far as brides are concerned. One of the most obvious choices is blue to go with the wedding function. Shoe manufacturers are also coming out with a “matched” set of shoes. Something extremely and fabulously stylish for the wedding function itself and a flatter and more comfortable pair for the “aftermath” of the wedding when all the dancing happens!

Colored shoes are also being accessorized with a lot of Bling too. Bows made of diamante, brooches and sparkling buttons are all being added on to the shoes to add that extra oomph factor. Interestingly, until 1840, brides wore blue shoes. Queen Victoria changed all that with her trend setting white shoes ensemble. Today, brides are making bolder choices and ensuring that their wedding shoes are unique and are representative of their individual style. Therefore, leading shoe manufacturers of the world are coming up with bridal shoes that cover the gamut of heels to flats in a variety of materials and designs and colors too.

Some of the most popular shoe trends are slingbacks and very scrappy and slim sandals. They are also coming with embellishments such as satin roses, crystal overtones and lace adornments. The toes of the shoes can range from open to round and square too. Platform shoes are also making a comeback in the bridal wear range. But they are far from clunky looking! With a perfect blend of style and comfort, a bride can choose from a range of designs to make her day special. Lots of personalization is also taking place in bridal shoes. For instance, the toes could have the initials of the bride and groom laid out in glittering stones. Or perhaps the stiletto has another special message.

Another way in which this kind of personalization can happen is when the bride matches the color of her shoes to her bouquet. Kitten heels are also a popular choice for bridal footwear. Even though white, cream and ivory do remain the classic and failsafe choice for bridal shoes, many brides are creating something different with these colors too. For instance, having white sheer shoes which show off their pretty feet through the sides and the top of the shoes. Or shoes that are made almost completely of old lace – all of them are coming up this season.
